Protect Our Shire’s Platypuses

Byron Greens

November 16, 2021

The Byron Greens will protect our Shire’s Platypuses.

It is not just Koalas that are under threat in Byron Shire. Our freshwater creeks and waterways were once home to thriving populations of Platypus. The Byron Greens will protect our waterways and ensure that the Platypus can re-populate our Shire.

We will:

  • Take action to prevent roads polluting our waterways with sediment,
rubbish, pesticides and petro-chemicals, including Council managed roads.
  • Make sure illegal land clearing is investigated and sediment runoff into waterways is prevented.
  • Protect and enhance our riparian zones through better planning changes.
  • Support better research and mapping of Byron’s remnant Platypus populations.
  • Work with the state to track and monitor water pumping from our creeks and rivers.
  • Protect ground water dependent eco-systems by prohibiting water mining.
  • Continue to oppose the Dunoon Dam project.
Byron’s Platypuses deserve clean unpolluted water and deep waterholes to live in.

Only Byron Greens are committed to decisive action to protect and enhance our creeks and waterways.

A vote for the Byron Greens is a vote for Byron’s Platypus.
