Protect Byron’s Unique Culture and Lifestyle

Byron Greens

November 27, 2021

Since the Aquarius festival in ‘73 the north coast has attracted people with passions and ideals that are essentially Green – respect and love of nature, living the ethics of social justice, reducing their footprint on the earth. The Byron Greens are keeping the dream alive!

You can tell a lot about a community by the clothes that they wear and the lack of shoes, so that we feel the earth beneath our feet.

Take a stroll through the Mullumbimby farmers markets on a Friday morning and you get a snapshot of our diverse community.

There is no doubt that Byron is the epicentre of bohemian lifestyle in Australia.

Since the Aquarius festival in ‘73 till now the north coast has attracted people with passions and ideals that are essentially Greens – respect and love of nature, living the ethics of social justice, reducing their footprint on the earth.

If you value freedom and harmony and feel constrained by the expectations of mainstream society then Byron is your natural home.

The Byron Greens know this. Byron would not be the place it is today without the dreamers who came here 50 years ago.

The Greens on the north coast have kept these dreams alive in the face of massive changes – the electronic and social media revolutions, the growing gap between the wealthy and the disadvantaged and the overwhelming challenge of climate change.

It is not hard to envision Byron Bay ending up like the Gold Coast if Greens on council had not stood up to developers and the state government.

That Gold Coast nightmare could still be a reality if developers get their way. The money flowing into Byron will become a flood and the Byron we know, and love will be lost forever.

Protect Byron’s unique culture and lifestyle. Labor and their supporting independents cannot be trusted to protect the Byron we love.

Only the Greens can serve politically with this spirit, like Bob Brown did, like Tamara Smith is doing and like Greens on Council have done for three decades.

So, cheer up, slow down and chill out and vote for the Greens at the local government elections which are on right NOW.

Vote for Byron Greens NOW by pre-poll at the Byron Community Centre or Mullumbimby Civic hall from now up until the election on Saturday the 4th of December.
